Residential Building Activity Hits Winter Lull
February 2015Housing starts and building permits fell in January but the current level of residential construction activity continues to point towards improving housing market conditions. Single-family starts and permits are both coming off almost seven-year highs in December so the pullback can be seen as just some cautious optimism. Much of the country has been in a deep freeze from extreme winter weather so that is also playing a role in slowing down construction activity.
